What I remember about Mr. Keyton is that he was a person who genuinely cared about his students....and he was very tall! He was always approachable and kind.  Reading his obituary, I see that carried over into every aspect of his life.  He was a true role model.

Me. Keyton was my hero!  After 25 years of teaching I still think he is the best principal I have ever seen.  Somehow he could run a tight ship and still be a true friend to all of us.  Everyone  could tell he really loved his job.  And he was so much fun.  I can still see him carrying Mrs. Board on his back at a pep rally!

If there were a competition for the "Best All-Around" high school principal, Mr. Keyton would have won, hands down.  Peggy, I'm glad you had that photo, because that moment is one of the funniest things I have seen in my entire life!  Only, it wasn't Mrs. Board on his back, it was Mrs. Bain, the biology teacher.  Mrs. Board was tiny, but Mrs. Bain was even shorter.  Mr. Keyton really got into the spirit of things, and was a great role model, not only for doing the best at his job, but for doing it with such joy and humor.

I was in 9th grade and the Home Room teacher said to go to Mr. Keyton's office. Scared, he winked at me and said everything was ok. He said he heard I was going to Dothan, AL in the summer to play in the Future Masters Golf Tournament. He said "that's my hometown"

I remembered that and found myself in Dothan 10 years ago on business. I looked in the phone book at the motel and there was a listing for him. I called and we ate breakfast the next morning for 2 hours. I told him I thought duPont provided an education then that rivals private school today. He said his philosophy in hiring teachers was that he interviewed the whole family to make sure they were stable and happy. Probably couldn't do that today! RIP Mr. Keyton.
